Should cell phone use in cars be banned? That seems to be quite a topic because everyone has a cell phone. You can’t go anywhere and not see people on their phones while driving. I know I’m guilty of it. If I’m in a lot of traffic, I try not to be on the phone, unless I’m getting directions. It’s impossible to focus 100% on what you’re doing. There’s no way I could live with the guilt if I were to injure someone. I have children of my own that are in my car to think about too. I don’t want to do anything at all to put them in danger. I think as long as you do it responsibly and pay attention, it’s alright. Maybe we really should pull over to talk. I know it’s hard to find a place to pull over sometimes, and pulling over on the interstate isn’t an option for me. I would be too afraid I’d get hit for sure.
I think one of the bigger problems is texting while driving. That’s a big problem. It seems to be a bigger problem with the younger people. Well, I’m 30 and I have friends that do it a lot. I’m too scared. If I want to converse with someone, I’ll just call them and save time.
In October, I was on my way to Neosho to meet up with some old friends from High School that I hadn’t seen since graduation. I was on 71 headed south, when all of a sudden I got passed by a man that was just flying. I happened to look over at him as he blurred past, and I noticed he was texting. As soon as he passed me, I saw him ram right into the back of a car. That car crossed the interstate and ended up on the opposite side of the interstate in a ditch facing the other direction. I stopped and made sure the people in the other car were alright and, thankfully they were. But, I noticed as I got out, the man that rear-ended them was getting out of his car with his phone in hand. He did turn and throw it back in the car as before he shut the door. The car that he hit didn’t have any children in the back. This is good, because the back end was in the front end. That in turn, got me thinking about my own children. That could have easily been me.
You are always hearing about someone getting killed in a car accident because of texting while driving. I agree that should be illegal for sure. There are too many people doing it and not paying attention. I’m sure it would keep the cops busy keeping it under control. It’s not hard to spot people doing it. They are looking down towards their laps and not looking at the road or surroundings. It could save lives easily people would stop.
I strongly agree that texting while driving should be illegal! At least if you are just talking on the phone with someone, you can still keep your eyes on the road. Texting requires you to look down at your phone, and in doing so, even for a second, you could get into an accident.
