Kids Cartoons

My topic of interest this week is going to be kid’s cartoons and shows. The new ones have some language that I don’t think is very suitable for kids to hear. I don’t let my kids say shut up and disrespectful things. It seems like they all say that stuff now. I’m glad they like the old ones too like, Tom and Jerry and the Looney Toons. I had to find that one on DVD. The other night, I actually had to turn a cartoon. It was something like a survivor cartoon, and one of the guys said something about needing to borrow one of the girls’ bras?? So, I turned it. They aren’t suitable for kids. Also, movies that we really like, like Sherk, are kind of inappropriate. My kids really don’t get a lot of it just yet, but I imagine when they get older they will look back and be like ohhhh, I get it now! The Shrek movies are by far some of the worst ones, as far as innuendos. I really, really dislike the new Cat in the Hat. It’s probably the worst of them all. Imagine that, they are all Mike Myers films. I like him, but he’s not for kids. In the Cat in the Hat, he calls a gardening ho a dirty ho. This is another one where they will look back at someday and get why Mom never liked it. My boys really like i carly. They watch at least one episode a day. Yesterday, Hayes, my three year old, told me his bottom was like two ripe apples. I guess Sam had told Spencer he had a “flat butt” and he disagreed. And Sam says “no chiz” And, of course we know what that one is. They all kiss and make out, etc. I think maybe that one is for older kids, but I have seen a lot of little girls wearing i carly clothes and there are girls in my son’s preschool class wearing i carly backpacks. I do edit what they watch most of the time. I’m always making my husband turn the TV. I’d rather them watch i carly than a movie on regular TV. We almost always have to keep it on the kid’s channels until they go to bed, because all the shows have sexual content and bad language. One show they really like is Americas Funniest Home Videos. I guess it could be worse though. It just seems that the only cartoons that seem to be appropriate, are the shows for little bitty kids, like Yo Gabba Gabba, or The Bubble Guppies. I’m not saying all show are not worth watching, but they have come a long way since I was a kid. We watched Smurfs, Scooby Doo, Woody Woodpecker, and Popeye. Some of those are still on sometimes and they watch them. I like the old style also. Now it’s all digitally done and don’t look right at all. Oh well, guess we’ve got to change with the times!

  1. I agree with you 100%. I can't believe some of the cartoons on tv today. My son likes Sponge Bob. Sometimes, that cartoon is inappropriate for him. It makes me mad with all of the cartoon sitcoms that are on to like Family Guy. My son wants to watch that show everytime he surfs the tv, but just because it is cartoon animated doesn't mean he can watch it. It is filthy. It is disgraceful.

  2. I know what you mean. I keep my channel on Nick Jr. or Sprout. My kids are pretty young though. Dora the Explorer and Yo Gabba Gabba are a couple of the favorites. We do watch I Carly a lot though, its ont so bad. Good luck finding suitable entertainment for you little ones. Its only going to get tougher.
