Pre-packaged snacks, BLAH

I can remember when I was little it was always a special, exciting day when you got to celebrate holidays and birthday’s at school. We got to bring cupcakes, kettle corn and all sorts of fun goodies. My mom made the best kettle corn and I can remember bringing big bags of it to school to just about every party, or if we got to watch a movie. There were always requests for it. I came from a super small elementary and junior high, and we were spoiled rotten. When I was in eighth grade, there were 13 of us, and we had the biggest class in the school. That year there were only 2 sixth graders. We didn’t change classes every hour; we even got recess. Anyway, it was a big shock to me when I moved to McDonald County. It was like moving to the city to me. Anyway, I can remember bringing all sorts of good things for our class to eat. Last week I got a letter from my son’s school telling us that we could only bring pre-packaged snacks and drinks to school. I was looking forward to making and decorating sugar cookies for Gavin to take. I think pre-packaged takes all the fun out of it. It sucks, but then again, I do understand why they do it. There are so many weirdo’s out there that would put something in the home made treats. That’s so sad that someone would even think of doing that. I mean, what is this world coming to? It’s so disgusting. I mean who does that? Especially to kids, it’s so upsetting. Gavin also had a note sent home before Halloween telling them not to eat homemade treats, and to make sure not to eat candy that wasn’t wrapped. In this small town, there are so many of the Grandma’s that make popcorn balls to give to the kids. I let my kids eat them because I know the ladies that make them. I don’t think anyone has told these ladies, or they just don’t care. I’m betting they just don’t care. They have probably done it for so long they are not going to stop now. I don’t blame them. I am sure it would be different if we lived in the city. As sad as it sounds, I am having a hard time trusting anyone anymore. I hate having to teach my kids to be leery of everyone. To be polite, but leery; it’s awful. What is it exactly that people are supposedly putting in these treats? Drugs, glass? What sort of sick satisfaction do these creeps get out of that? They definitely need professional help. Pre-packaged treats and drinks, I get it. We’d do anything in our power to keep our kids safe. You know, I’m sure that they don’t know any different, it just their parents generation that think it’s disturbing.
