Sports

It’s begun. It’s that time of year and the boys have started playing sports again. The running every weekend may not be tiring for them, but for me, that’s when I get most of my homework done. I suppose I will have to get it finished at night so I can keep up also. Last weekend we started Iddy Biddy Basketball. Both boys actually get to play that. They love all sports, but I think basketball is Gavin’s favorite. Hayes also gets to play, so he thinks he’s pretty big stuff. Gavin gets pretty proud of himself when he makes a basket. He looks at me to see if I was watching, and to give me a thumbs up. Poor Hayes got injured of course. One of the mats fell off the wall and fell on him. He had just enough time to cover his little head as he fell. He got a couple pretty good marks on him from the carpet though. I think I was up and running before people started pulling the mat off. I wonder if it’s a mom thing, but I don’t remember getting up from the floor where I was sitting. I just remember running and him up and reaching for me before I got there. He just said he was ready to go home. He’d had enough. At three, he is the youngest on his brother’s team. There are eight teams and everyone gets a chance to shoot and dribble the ball. It is so cute and funny to watch. Now, in April T-ball starts. Hayes is so upset because you have to be four to play. The age limit was three when Gavin started. I’m not going to be one of those mom’s that calls and complains and tries to get their kid on a team. Rules are rules; that’s how it goes. Anyway, it cost $30 a kid to play basketball and $20 for Gavin to play T-ball. Gavin also wants to start Karate classes. That isn’t too bad, it’s only $25 a month and they practice two times a week. We are waiting to see if Hayes can take lessons also. If he does, it will only be an additional $5 a month. I hope he gets to; he loves to do everything his big brother does. They both love every sport so I am not sure if I should limit them or not. I think I will just let them play it all until they are older and things don’t work out so well. If certain things overlap, they might have to choose. I want them to have every experience possible. Their father is already talking sports scholarships, and the boys are only 5 and 3! It’s funny though, my husband is 5’9’’ and I am 6’. He keeps saying I just hope they have the height I didn’t have. Chad was good at sports, he was just small. Both boys are very tall for their age, so I’m guessing they will take after their Mama!

  1. It’s important for kids to play sports, it teaches them teamwork and discipline which will benefit them throughout their lives. I know it will get hectic for you the older they get, but treasure those moments because before you know it they’ll be grown and gone to college and you’ll be left wondering what to do with all your spare time!
